Parliamentary groups join forces on tobacco control

16 June 2009

Four All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs), including the APPG for Dentistry, joined forces this week to host a meeting considering the case for the tobacco control measures in the Health Bill. The Dentistry Group, alongside the APPGs for Smoking and Health, for Asthma and for Heart Disease, heard from Oliver Smith of the Department of Health, as well as Professor Gerard Hastings of Stirling University, and Paul Thomas, Head of Trading Standards for Devon County Council. The focus of the presentations was on the promotional effect of branding on cigarette packaging and the illegal use of vending machines to purchase tobacco products by minors.
